Montréal, November 18, 2014. PointQuébec is proud to announce that, as of this morning, Québec has taken its place on the Web with its own identity, and it is now possible to obtain a domain name with the .QUEBEC suffix.
“I am delighted that our companies, organizations, and institutions can now highlight the quality of our products and services with our own unique identity,” declared Normand Fortier, Vice-President, Operations, of PointQuébec. “The Internet has changed our habits and ways of doing things. These days, people do research, discuss issues, express their opinions, exchange information, and do business on-line. In this new world, to set yourself apart and succeed, you need a domain name that represents what you want to communicate,” continued Mr. Fortier.
An important step in the history of Québec and the Internet
Québec is the only community in Canada and one of the first in the world to have its own domain name. Québec is now at the leading edge of this movement to territorialize the Web, alongside 76 other communities, including .BERLIN, .LONDON, .SCOT, .CAT and .PARIS, which already have or will soon have their own Web addresses.
Many companies and organizations, including Cirque du Soleil, Infopresse, Conseil du Patronat du Québec, Cinémas Guzzo, CETEQ, and singer Alexandre Belliard with his group Légendes d’un peuple have already registered their brand names as part of the Pioneers Program. These Québec enterprises are the first of many to express their pride in promoting the excellence of our own companies and organizations,” concluded Mr. Fortier.
Take your place on the Web!
As of today, the registration of .QUEBEC domain names will be done on a first come, first served basis via registrars and resellers. For a complete list of registrars and resellers, visit our Web site at http://registre.quebec/en/get-a-quebec.
